The brief

Waikato Regional Council is transitioning its vehicle fleet to electric and needs the charging infrastructure — and the software to manage it — to support that transition without creating operational drag. The project also supports the government’s emissions-reduction plan and the council’s broader climate-change objectives.

What we deliver

End-to-end EV charging infrastructure rollout:

  • EV infrastructure planning and procurement — chargers selected and procured against forward fleet plan and site constraints
  • Charge-management software — implementing a platform that can manage chargers efficiently across multiple WRC properties without per-site manual oversight
  • Integration with council fleet operations — ensuring the infrastructure supports the actual fleet-transition cadence
  • Alignment to emissions-reduction objectives — measurable contribution to the government’s emissions reduction plan and WRC’s climate-change objectives

The EV charge-management platform’s five capability tiles — load management, OCPP integration, dashboard, driver app, and ISO/IEC 27001-aligned data security.

How we work

EV infrastructure projects often stumble at the integration boundary between the chargers, the management software, and the council’s existing fleet processes. We led the procurement and rollout with that integration as the explicit success criterion — not “we delivered N chargers” but “the chargers are used, monitored, and contribute measurably to the fleet transition”.

Outcome

WRC has a functioning EV charging network across council properties, managed by software that the council’s operations team can run without external intervention, and aligned to the emissions-reduction reporting the council needs to produce.

Team

Bob Hu (Managing Director / Principal Traffic Engineer) holds the WRC relationship and led overall delivery. Charles Agate (Senior Assets Engineer / Traffic Management Specialist) led ITS and asset-integration work — particularly the charge-management platform selection and fleet-process integration. Stu Zhang (Transport Modeller / Assets Analyst) led the dashboard / data-integration workstream. Trish Blyth (Contract Administrator) led procurement and contract administration.
